JSC Rules and Bylaws 

All persons who participate in events, ride their horses or use the facilities at the Johnstown Saddle Club arena are subject to the below rules. Pleasure Horse Show Rules

The pleasure events will be judged using the 4-H rule book, including tack and attire. Dress attire must be appropriate for the class entered.

Showmanship, Reining, Western Riding and English Control patterns will be token from the current 4-H Rule Book. Patterns for Trail, walk-trot, and lead line classes will be posted.

10 and under Western and English classes (walk-trot) will be walk-trot only 6 and under lead line will be a walk class only. All other classes will be a minimum of walk, trot and lope,

The 10 and under Western classes are for children unable or confident enough to lope. All children 8 to 10 that are able to lope are expected to enter 8-10 Western classes, Walk-trot will have a Showmanship class.

The lead line classes are intended for children that arc unable to ride and/or handle the horse alone. The child should he old enough to sit on the horse without assistance from a second person. The horse must be lead with a lead attached to a halter or bridle by a person 14 years or older, Lead line has only 1 class and is not eligible for high point.

The green horse class can include any age horse that has been under saddle two years or less. This does not mean shown for two years or less. It will be judged as a pleasure class and does not count towards high point.

Classes of three or less may be combined.

Daily high points are open to members and non-members alike. To be eligible for daily high point, contestants must enter at least three Western or three English events excluding green horse. Points are awarded with first place receiving 5 points, second place 4 points, third place 3 points, fourth place 2 points and fifth place 1 point.

No stallions or uncontrollable horses allowed at the shows. The show management will determine and dismiss any horse deemed to be uncontrollable.

The same horse may not be ridden by more than one exhibitor in the same class and age group. Hardships must be approved by show management.

ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL will be allowed on the grounds. Violators will forfeit awards and be excused from the grounds. Any one found to be consuming alcohol off the grounds will not be permitted to show or enter the grounds.

All horses that kick must be flagged with a red ribbon. Ribbons can be obtained at the entry booth if needed.

NO DOGS ALLOWED ANYWHERE ON JSC PROPERTY. Violators may be excused from the grounds at the direction of show management.

Year end high points will be limited to members only. Contestants must be a member in good standing at the time points are earned. To be eligible for year end high point, members must participate in at least three shows, have attended 4 general meetings throughout the year and have volunteered a minimum of 4 hours.

Contestant’s age is as of January 1st.

Gymkhana Show Rules

The gymkhana events will he ran using the 4-H rule book, including tack and attire with two exceptions. T-shirts maybe worn in place of long sleeve, western shirts, and baseball caps and visors are allowed. No tank taps or string tops.

Western hats are optional (no bandanas). If hats are worn and they fall off, a 5 second penalty is assessed,

The lead line classes are intended for children that are unable to ride and/or handle the horse alone. The child should be old enough to sit on the horse without assistance from a second person. The horse must be lead with a lead attached to a halter or bridle by a person 14 years or older.

For safety reasons, it is permissible and encouraged to dismount and lead your horse into the arena if there is any difficulty riding in. The show management will determine and dismiss any horse deemed to be uncontrollable.

All classes will have ribbons through 5 places. Daily high point awards, open to members or non-members, will be given in each of the age groups, including lead line, Points are awarded with first place receiving 5 points, second place 4 points, third place 3 points, fourth place 2 points and fifth place 1 point.

JSC Parade Rules

Rider must be capable of handling their horse on their own. No ponying will be allowed, No riding double. Lead line is allowed and walkers are encouraged.

To participate in the parades you must be a member of the Johnstown Saddle Club, (This includes riding a horse, carrying a banner, riding in a wagon or any other vehicle,)

If the rider is unable to control the horse the parade chairman, board member, or representative appointed to assist, has the authority to ask the rider to dismount and/or leave the parade route.

Participation in a parade will be left up to the discretion of the parade chairman, board member or representative appointed to assist.

Rider is responsible for proper care and cleaning of JSC parade tack and/or uniforms and returning it to the parade chairman.

Attire will be as follows:

• White long sleeve western shirt
• Western boots
• Western belt
• Black jeans
• Black hat
• Uniform and/or tack provided by the JSC or your own

All horses will be clipped and bathed; hooves will be cleaned and properly trimmed and/or shod.

Penalties For Rule Violations

Members:

1st Violation: Warning
2nd Violation:. Lose the Day's points
3rd Violation: Lose the Year's point
4th Violation: Not allowed back on the grounds.

Non-members:

1st Violation: Warning
2nd Violation: Not allowed to ride in the event
